Check out the pre-searing Guide on this very site, it is pretty good.
Once you have done most of the quests in pre-searing and your level 7 it's gets hard to progress because most of the mobs yeild 0 XP, I moved on to post-searing at level 7 myself and it worked out well... |

Yeah. You have pretty much everything. Did you get the Rez Signet and Belt Pouch just outside of Ascalon? Other than possibly those, you should be more than ready to go to post-searing.

I heard it's good to stop up on scales, as they sell for alot to the merchants. (atleast, thats what people have told me.)
I actually hardly did anything in pre-sear, as i was a noob and had no idea what was going on. Oh well, >.> |

Yeah, you can get scales and some other tradeables, but if you have around 1000 gold and all your quests done there's not much reason to stay in pre-searing. You can get all that stuff later as well, and staying in pre-searing is just slowing down your character progression.
There's no rush, but you could go at anytime. Most people go around level 5-7. You could pick up a few more tanned hides if you want, you'll almost for sure need them for your first new set of armor(most classes do, not sure if they all do). As soon as you get to the next area there will be a merchant with way better armor. You can also get the hides there easily, so you don't have to get more in pre-searing, but could if you want to. |
